Tsunami wave floods Haleiwa Boat Harbor on Oahu’s North Shore

Since the first wave of the tsunami arrived in Hawaii Tuesday, water had been ebbing and flowing steadily for hours at Haleiwa Boat Harbor on Oahu’s North Shore.
Then at around 9:10 p.m., water rushed in, flooding the majority of the harbor’s parking lot.

Kolekole Pass opens in West Oahu for evacuations

To support tsunami evacuation efforts, the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy have opened Kolekole Pass from Lualualei Naval Road to Lyman Road.
This route is now accessible for emergency use and may be used by residents as an alternate evacuation path.

Authorities further expand public kindergartens

Hawaii state officials have announced they plan to add 50 public kindergarten classrooms over the next two years, increasing early education opportunities for more than 2,700 children statewide
Hawaii has already opened about 90 public kindergartens for preschool children. Of the 50 classes scheduled to open in the future, half are scheduled to open by August this year, and the other half by August next year.

Honolulu airport installs monitor showing security checkpoint wait times

Terminal 1 at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on Oahu has installed monitors that display flight status and security checkpoint wait times.
wait time displayed on the new security checkpoint wait time monitors is calculated using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology, making it possible to know the time required for passengers to pass through security checkpoints.
