Proposal to increase traffic violation fines keeps advancing

House Bill 1539 is getting closer to getting the green light in the state legislature. The bill is looking to address several issues including increasing mandatory fines and even proposing prison time for repeat traffic violations, such as reckless driving, speeding offenses, and driving without a license.

Kahala Avenue has some of the richest and most coveted addresses in the islands. But the recent rains highlighted another population upstream, resulting in debris on the beach fronting the luxury homes.
“With all these multi-million dollar homes right on the beach here and then all the trash and the homeless -- it’s pretty said,” said Waikiki resident Hanna Richards, who was visiting the beach with her husband.
Among the mess just yards from beachfront mansions were tents, grocery carts, a bicycle and a wheelchair.

Advisory posted after venomous jellyfish spotted on Waikiki beaches

A fascinating but potentially dangerous species of jellyfish known as Box Jellyfish has been spotted on Waikiki beaches Saturday morning
Box jellyfish have a distinctive cube-shaped bell, up to 15 tentacles that can grow up to several feet long, and are a among the most venomous creatures in the world.
Signs have been posted, but officials are still urging beachgoers to check with a lifeguard for the latest ocean and beach conditions.

June 7, 2024 Friday
5:30 PM Road Closes 12:00 AM Road Reopens

The event is expected to have 10,000 + participants. Lane closures begin at 12noon for setup. The event will close all traffic lanes/sidewalk areas on Kalakaua Avenue, from Seaside Ave. to Uluniu Ave. Traffic will be diverted at 5:30pm.
